Tell All Tuesday featuring Melissa of The Gluten Exchange

glutenexchangeblogrevamplogoMostowyHeadShotWe are excited to feature the lovely Melissa of The Gluten Exchange this week!

Please tell everyone a little about yourself.

I am a San Diego native who enjoys yoga, traveling, frozen yogurt, hosting parties, and consuming all gluten free baked goods.

Please tell me about your gluten-free blog.

The Gluten Exchange documents my gluten free life mainly in San Diego, CA. It features my favorite gluten filled turned gluten free recipes, restaurant and product reviews, national conferences, local events, and most importantly my gluten free baking creations!

How long have you been blogging?

I started The Gluten Exchange in July 2011.

Why did you start a gluten-free blog?

Food brings people together, and I enjoy sharing dishes and aspects of my life that may do the same for others living with Celiac Disease. When I was diagnosed in December 2007 my world came to a halt. At that time, gluten was a word everyone looked at you like HUH? Once I realized how much better I felt abiding to a gluten free diet, my outlook on life did a 180. I hope to bring the same positive outlook to others by documenting my gluten free successes and learnings through the years.

What makes your blog different than anyone?
The Gluten Exchange is primarily based in San Diego. As a tourist destination for millions throughout the year, I hope to share San Diego’s gluten free gem. I want to be a resource to those visiting this beautiful city and highlighting all it has to offer in the gluten free world. From delicious eateries to chain restaurants and
dedicated bakeries, San Diego has hundreds of options for those dining with dietary restrictions.

As far as my recipes, they are as easy to follow as they are to make and do not require ingredients that you cannot pronounce or find in your local grocery store. As a young working professional, I am not trying to break the bank on every gluten free meal. Just because it is gluten free, doesn’t mean it needs to cost an arm and a leg and in our case small intestine :)

What would you like to see with your gluten-free blog in the future?

I would like to collaborate with fellow gluten free bloggers and gluten free companies on new projects. This community is simply amazing and I have learned a great deal from my colleagues. By collaborating with those living in my same shoes, I hope to bring awareness, understanding and new ideas to fellow Celiacs.

What do you love about gluten-free blogging most?

Sharing my gluten free journey to the world! I have always enjoyed baking and I oddly enough love the challenge of creating my favorite desserts gluten free. The kitchen is my place to escape, no matter what happened that day, I find peace of mind measuring out my gluten free flour, putting my Kitchen Aid to use and cranking on the oven. It is my little piece of heaven, until the cookies burn. :)

Do you do giveaways? If so, what was your favorite giveaway?

Oh yes! My favorite giveaway was with Balance Bar.

Tell me some of your favorite gluten-free blogs that you read.
