If you don’t know Amie of The Healthy Apple, you are in for a real treat. She is one of the most talented bloggers I know. Her writing is real and personal. Her recipes are not only tasty and almost too beautiful to eat but they are healthy for you as well. Amie loves to visit NYC farmers markets and find fresh ingredients for her culinary creations. I love following her on Instagram because she inspires me to get in the kitchen and create more healthy dishes. I am proud to introduce you this week to Amie!
Please tell everyone a little about yourself.
Please tell me about your gluten-free blog.
I blog weekly with healthy recipes, tips, ways to stay positive when you are fighting health issues, how to work with your doctor, how to find an integrative MD, explaining the difference between Western and Integrative medicine and inspiring people to put down the drugs and really go inside themselves to see what the root cause of their health issues is. I work with people one on one as a celebrity chef and culinary nutritionist – cooking, baking and having fun teaching them how to eat real food!
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging since I became sick back in January 2009.
Why did you start a gluten-free blog?
I was in my 20’s- working in corporate America and got very sick. Bone marrow biopsies, Mayo Clinic, every doctor all over the world didn’t know what was wrong with me, so I went back to school for Integrative Medicine and started healing myself and now I’m on a mission to change the way we all view health and get people thinking about what they are putting IN and ON their bodies instead of using drugs as a bandaid to cover up health issues.
What makes your blog different than anyone else’s?
It’s my personal story; I talk about what’s real. I live in the heart of Manhattan, love my life and cherish every moment. I’ve been through hell the last 10 years with my health and didn’t really have my 20’s; so I’m starting to live now and enjoying my 30’s. I get very personal in my blog- talking about life, happiness, choosing love over fear, meditation and staying positive along with yummy recipes!!
What would you like to see with your gluten-free blog in the future?
I’m starting to talk more about my health the last 10 years with undiagnosed Lyme disease, colitis and candida-the struggle to get off steroids, pain killers and water pills that Western medicine put me on in my 20’s. Now I’m healthy and happy and off those drugs, but it took lots of time and I had to do most of the work myself and learn how to make my body ‘nontoxic’ with lots of detox and healthy regiments to literally ‘clean up’ the toxins inside my body. Now, I’ve created a TON of resources on my website around health and toxicity and detox to help others too!
What do you love about gluten-free blogging most?
Receiving comments from people who I’ve inspired!!!
Do you do giveaways? If so, what was your favorite giveaway? Yes, right now I’m doing daily giveaways on my Facebook Page; I do weekly giveaways every week on my Facebook page and anyone can enter! Lots of healthy gluten-free food and non-toxic beauty products and cleaning product for people to win!
Tell me some of your favorite gluten-free blogs that you read. I read them all and love them; our community is incredible, isn’t it? So inspiring! And your blog is beyond fabulous!
