Gluten-Free Peppermint Tea Flubber (the kiddos are going to love this!!)

IMG_9860

So the kiddos and I are getting ready for the holiday season and wanted to do something that involves a little science (since they also wanted to watch Sid the Science Kid today ;) but was also holiday themed. I decided it would be fun to make some safe, gluten-free flubber from peppermint tea! Bigelow is a great brand that is gluten-free. We also wanted to use our favorite salt, Real Salt and gluten-free all-purpose flour just in case anyone ate it (which is a real possibility with a 2 year old). The end product was SO fun and smelled of the holidays. My boys loved throwing this on the ground and making flubber shoes over their little feet on the tile. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did…Happy almost December! ;)

2 c gluten-free all-purpose flour
2 c warm water

2 bags of gluten-free peppermint tea (watch for hidden barley in other brands)
1 1/2 T. cream of tartar
1 c Real Salt
2 T. oil (I used olive but whatever works)
food coloring

*Whisk all ingredients together until combined. Cook over low heat making sure to use a wooden spoon to stir consistently 4-5 min. The mixture should have lost its stickiness and be the consistency of flubber before removing from heat. Work the flubber between both hands for a few minutes until it is soft and smooth. Cool down and let kiddos have a blast playing with this safe, gluten-free flubber!

Note: You can keep in plastic bags at room temperature.

I was just wondering when you added the peppermint tea?

Not sure what I did wrong. We followed the instructions, but at 4 minutes it was still watery & I had to double the time. It’s cooling now, but it’s still very sticky.
