Please tell everyone a little about yourself.

I am a registered dietitian nutritionist living with celiac disease.  I love hiking, yoga, going to the farmers market, and spending Sunday afternoons cooking.  I just moved to Boulder, CO from New York so am getting a big fill of all these things.  I am also an avid tennis and baseball fan.  My career focus (even prior to being diagnosed) is working with the food industry–manufacturers, commodity boards, foodservice and hospitality providers, and retailers–to help them be a part of the solution to creating a healthier food environment.  I also educate the public on nutrition issues via media interviews, public speaking, writing and blogging.  Since being diagnosed, I have spent a good portion of my time educating the public about the gluten-free lifestyle and helping the food industry to provide safe, nutritious and delicious options for those living gluten-free.

 
Please tell me about your gluten-free blog.

The mission for my blog is to provide those on a gluten-free diet with the information and resources they need to strike a balance between eating gluten-free healthfully and happily. 

How long have you been blogging? Since May 2010

Why did you start a gluten-free blog?
When I started blogging, much of the information on the web about the gluten-free diet focused on not the healthiest of food options and there was a great deal of misinformation.  I wanted to make sure there was a source for people to learn about how to live gluten-free both happily and healthfully, and to make sure they were getting accurate, science-based information, not just personal opinions.

What makes your blog different than anyone else’s?

I provide a gluten-free perspective that comes from first-hand personal experience, while also being grounded in objective nutrition expertise.

What would you like to see with your gluten-free blog in the future?

That’s a perfectly-timed question.  In the next few months, I am relaunching my website, which includes a refresh of my blog and adding a consumer newsletter.  The blog and newsletter will focus on gluten-free eating–like it has always done–but will start to delve a little more into a holistic approach to living one’s best gluten-free life.

Do you do giveaways? If so, what was your favorite giveaway?  Yes, I do giveaways.  I have taken a little bit of a break from them in the past year, but as I relaunch my blog and start a newsletter, I am planning to bring them back.  I like doing cookbook and culinary-based giveaways.  Anything that helps the gluten-free community to get into the kitchen and learn how to prepare food is an awesome opportunity.

Tricia Thompson’s glutenfreedietiitan.com is an excellent resource for learning about the nitty gritty of gluten-free food testing.

 
If you want a raw, tell-it-like-it-is approach to the gluten-free lifestyle and food environment, the GlutenDude.com is a fun read.
 
There are several local examiner.com blogs dedicated to gluten-free living, such as Jennifer Harris’ Atlanta-based Gluten-Free Examiner.  These are great resources of information. Check out your local examiner to see if there is a columnist dedicated to writing about gluten free living.
