As an avid foodie and talkative butterfly, my mouth has some very important jobs. I wanted to take a minute and share a wonderful non-profit organization with all of you that gives sweet children suffering from cleft, their smile back.
Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity that heals children’s smiles through free cleft surgery. Since 1982, Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided more than 3.5 million comprehensive patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with facial deformities (from the Operation Smile website). This is a charity that I personally believe in and feel deserves recognition. I am no longer in school but many of you are. Campus Book Rentals has been giving back to Operation Smile for years now and has made a big difference in helping them achieve their mission. With each textbook rented, they donate a portion back to Operation Smile, pretty cool to see businesses giving back like this.
It is important for us to support non-profit organizations like the Celiac Disease Foundation in our celiac and gluten-free communities but also outside of that. If you have a family member suffering from breast cancer, consider donating to the Susan G. Komen foundation. If you have a family member with autism, consider donating to Autism Speaks. If you can’t offer a donation, please consider ways you can volunteer your time to help these and other amazing non-profit organizations around the world.
