Tell All Tuesday Featuring Sarah of Gluten Free Dairy Free WDW!!

I am SO excited about this week’s Tell all Tuesday Featured Blogger! Sarah of and I have been talking on the phone and emailing as my family and I are preparing for our BIG Disneyworld (and Harry Potter World) vacation this October!! I had NO idea that dining reservations could be (and frankly, need to be) made 180 days in advance…that is crazy! I have booked most of our trips meals based on Sarah’s recommendations and am still hoping and wishing we can get into a dinner at Be Our Guest and O’hana. Fingers crossed for me you guys! Sarah is THE expert when it comes to allergen friendly vacationing at Disneyworld. She is absolutely a guru and is totally passionate about it. You can tell from her that she loves her blog and what she writes about more than almost anyone I know. I have been so impressed with Sarah and her awesome blog and know you will be to…

Please tell everyone a little about yourself.

I am a librarian, a researcher, and a Disney junkie! I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease a little over four years ago and during that time I also found out that I have food intolerances to gluten and dairy. I recently started running after another Crohn’s & Colitis sufferer inspired by me to get out there and try it. I’m excited to be running my first 5K season at the Walt Disney World Resort in October 2013. It combines my some of my favorite things: Disney, running, and great food!

Please tell me about your gluten-free blog.

My blog contains reviews of gluten free & dairy free dining experiences at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. I post reviews of all of my dining experiences and include photographs of the food served in Disney restaurants. I also include some reviews with guests who have other types of special diets: including soy free, egg free, and food coloring allergies. The blog also contains tips and tricks of dining at WDW with a special diet, reference sheets that list where special diets vendor products are located, reader’s ratings, podcast episodes and even special events!

How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging for 4 years. It’s been an incredible journey and a blast to see how the blog has evolved!

Why did you start a gluten-free blog?

I started my blog around the time I first went to Disney World with dietary restrictions. I had been visiting the theme parks for many years and knew I loved the food there but felt totally blindsided when I went to Disney with special diets the first time. I found lots of great information on blogs and websites about gluten free diets at Disney but not as many for folks with multiple dietary needs. I really wanted to share my experiences to other people out there just like me and especially to families traveling to Disney World.

What makes your blog different than anyone else’s?

If you’re looking for current, up-to-date information and reviews from the Walt Disney World Resort on special diets, specifically gluten free and dairy free, my blog has it! I live 1 ½ hours from the resort and visit frequently, so I’m always finding out new gluten free & dairy free info as soon as it becomes available. I also have a lot of interactive features for blog visitors—from reader’s ratings to an active Facebook page, there are lots of opportunities to share your great reviews and tips with everyone else. Perhaps the most unique thing about my blog is that I host special diets events at Disney. I regularly host blog meetups there; we just had our last one at Babycakes at Downtown Disney. I’m also hosting my 2nd annual special diets dessert party at Epcot in October. Disney’s Catered Events takes care of all the food and custom creates dishes for our guests that are free of the top common allergens: Gluten/wheat, dairy/milk/casein, soy, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish and shellfish. I even work with special diets vendors who donate lots of great swag to the events. The parties are open to anyone who wants to enjoy safe and delicious food!

What would you like to see with your gluten-free blog in the future?

My hope is to continue sharing lots of great gluten free & dairy free info with my readers and to begin to incorporate more reader’s reviews. I also hope to continue building on our special events at Disney so that we can share these great experiences with other guests. I also hope to create more podcasts and maybe even a video series.

What do you love about gluten-free blogging most?

I love meeting new people. It’s been such a joy to meet so many great gluten free and special diets folks. I love learning from them and hearing their recommendations and tips. I also love hearing from guests after their Disney dining experiences. It means a lot to hear about family experiences that have been made magical because of the information they learned from my blog.

Do you do giveaways? If so, what was your favorite giveaway?

I do a lot of giveaways related to our special events. Perhaps my most favorite was one I did after our December 2012 dessert party, where I gave away “mini” swag bags from the party to guests who were unable to attend. Probably the most popular was an Udi’s Gluten Free frozen basket worth over $55!
