I would first like to thank the fabulous Ken Sheer of Rock a Healthy Lifestyle and Jami Reagan of Shine Factory for putting this evening together. There was a fabulous group of people that joined us for this event including the absolutely hilarious Erica Dermer of Celiac and the Beast, my GFF Julia Lersch of Julia’s Gluten Free Bakery, the lovely Stephanie Riel of twitter.com/rieldeal, fun and full of life Lindsay Beres of Aquarian Media Group and an amazing girl and friend Sarah Stolp of CanIEatHere.com. The evening began with a wonderful explanation from our waitress for the evening on the thorough process Sauce goes through to ensure that the gluten free dining experience is a safe one for all. A dedicated pizza screen, utensils and cutters are used for gluten free pizza. The wait and kitchen staff are knowledgable and willing to discuss with you any concerns you may have.
Our menu tasting began with two fabulous soups the White Bean Potato and Tuscan Tomato. The White Bean Potato was hearty and filling with that warmth that immediately makes you feel comfortable. The Tuscan Tomato was SO amazing!! It as truly the greatest tomato soup I have ever had! It is creamy, delicious and full of robust flavor. It was absolutely the perfect beginning to this meal.
Next up were the salads. The Chicken, Pine Nuts, Tomato and Gorgonzola was fantastic! The chicken was full of flavor and an excellent source of protein. The pine nuts were an earthy flavor with just the right amount of fat while the gorgonzola was a creamy, smooth element over crisp lettuce. I could eat this salad all night! The second salad was the Vegetable which featured crisp carrot, cucumber and asparagus as well as fresh, sweet corn and tomato. The avocado brought a smooth dressing sort of touch to the salad while the parmesan added a nice, natural saltiness. Every vegetable tasted like it was just picked that day. I was thoroughly impressed.
Since the pizza is the highlight at sauce I was very much looking forward to this course. I loved that there was the option to do half and half pizzas which allowed Julia and I to try FOUR different pizzas by splitting each of our pizzas in half with a flavor. We chose to enjoy the sausage and caramelized onion, Chicken Caesar and Parmesan, Rosemary and Potato and Tavern Ham-Pineapple. All of the were SO good! I loved the crust from Venice Bakery (one of Dana Vollmer Olympic Gold Medalist’s favorites I hear). It crisped up nicely and was thin so let the toppings truly shine. I have to say that the Rosemary and Potato was my favorite. It was unique and screamed comfort to my belly. I would recommend ANY of these gluten free menu items at the Scottsdale Sauce at Fashion Square Mall which is where we dined.
