#14 of the 25 Days of Gluten Free Giveaways featuring: Gluten Free Creations Bakery and Cafe!!

I have to say that living in Arizona is one of the greatest blessings since being diagnosed with celiac disease. There are SO many amazing restaurants and bakeries here. I feel like there are so many great chefs and bakers who really get it. They understand cross contamination and genuinely care about their customers. Gluten Free Creations Bakery and Cafe absolutely fits into this category. The owner Lynnrae truly has an incredibly deep passion for providing the absolute safest gluten free products to our local community. You NEVER have to worry about cross contamination with her products because they are made in a dedicated gluten free bakery. Her staff is educated and passionate about her cause as well.

I have reviewed Gluten Free Creations Bakery and Cafe before but I have to say that my favorite Gluten Free Creations review were the tasty treats I enjoyed while at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ for gluten free afternoon tea. It was amazing!! So here it is for you all to enjoy…

If you know me at all, then you know just how girly I am. I love anything feminine and pretty. The Phoenician’s afternoon tea was the perfect setting for me to be the girly girl I am. Upon arrival we were taken in by the gorgeous main lobby. Everything was rich in gold tones, with a Victorian feel. The seating was incredibly comfortable. The sound of the flowing water fountain was the perfect accompaniment to the gorgeous baby grand piano being played by Alan, the same pianist that has played there since 1982. Everything from the tableware to the menu itself was so exquisite. Manager, Josh Wesley, was so inviting and knowledgeable. He made us feel so welcome.

Our tea experience began with the choosing of tea we would like to enjoy for the day. I chose the Tropical Roobios while my cousin Calli chose the White Berry Tea. Calli loved her tea and thought it was rich in fresh cranberry flavor. I thought the Tropical Roobios was flowery and mild. One that many would enjoy, however it wasn’t my favorite so I asked it I could possibly change to the peppermint tea. I was so glad I did, it was so delicious and relaxing. It was very nostalgic for me and reminded me of the holidays. We both loved our tea with a little cream and some sugar.

Next was the gluten free tea sandwiches. We began with the Crisp Asparagus which was wrapped with Parma Ham and Boursin Mousse. It was topped with a small slice of cherry tomato. It was absolutely amazing! The flavors married so well together. I could have eaten this one all day. No bread made for a different but very nice presentation. I also loved the light, yet rich smokey flavor of the ham.
Our second tea sandwich was the Phoenician’s Lemon and Thyme Chicken Salad. The thyme was an excellent choice to boost this traditional sandwich to a higher level. This was the only sandwich with gluten free white bread on both sides of the chicken salad mixture. It made for a heavier sandwich but very delicious.
English Cucumber was the third sandwich we enjoyed. A thin, circle of crisp apple was the base for this sandwich. It was also topped with seedless cucumber and a mint cream cheese. Calli especially loved this sandwich. It was a great mix of sweet and tart, crisp and smooth.
The Classic Egg Salad was another great addition to this plate of wonderful tea sandwiches. Diakon sprouts, watercress and onion in a hardboiled egg made for a unique and modern version of this teatime classic.
The final tea sandwich was the Hickory Smoked Salmon. Cream cheese mousse, dill and citrus on gluten free bread topped with the hickory smoked salmon made this open face sandwich so tasty. It was so moist and full of flavor. It was like biting into butter. It was so smooth all the way through.

Our next course was the gluten free scones. The scone served to us was the Almond Poppyseed. It was one of the most delicious scones I have ever tried. It was soft, sweet and delicious! It was very moist and flavored just right with almond. Served along side fresh Lemon Curd, Devonshire Cream and Strawberry Preserves, this could not be a more amazing treat for tea time. The Lemon Curd was rich and very fresh. It was so smooth and sweet. The Devonshire Cream was cream and again, rich. It wasn’t sweetened which was nice because you could add it alone to a scone for a less sweet topping or add a little Lemon Curd with it and create a very sweet topping. The Strawberry Preserves had excellent texture and flavor. It was a great addition to the scones.

The final course was the gluten free chocolate cake and fresh fruit. I was so glad to see the fruit next to the chocolate cake as it was so rich. I was also glad that the slice of chocolate cake was not too large. After the sweet scones, we had to take a moment before eating the very rich and sweet chocolate cake. I probably would have like to do the scones first, then sandwiches and finally the cake or tea pastries.

Everything was so delicious and full of flavor. All gluten free bread, scone and dessert items were provided by Gluten Free Creations Bakery. The Phoenician feels that this gives them the best opportunity of keeping everything truly gluten free and avoiding cross-contamination. The ambiance was also amazing. Afternoon tea at The Phoenician is an experience I would recommend to anyone. These Gluten Free Creations Bakery items were absolutely sublime and I would also recommend them to anyone.
