Gluten Free P90X Challenge…My Results

So I promised I would put this up but know that this is a BIG deal for me to put a picture of me up in this little. Better than a swimsuit shot (which wasn’t about to happen ;)! I was so impressed with the results that my husband and I got from our recent P90X challenge. We started an online, Facebook challenge/support group so participants nationwide could all talk about daily struggles, workouts, nutrition and more in one place. Our awesome coach, Sherrianne Nelson of Next Level Fit Club kept us motivated and excited throughout the journey. She offered great advice and tips, especially about the Beachbody program and products that only a coach would know.

My husband is INCREDIBLY dedicated so didn’t cheat in 90 days. I, on the other hand, LIVE to eat not eat to live. ;) This proved to be a challenge for me as I had to buckle down and watch my nutrition. I once heard a quote, “You can live at the gym, but if you don’t eat clean, your wasting your time.” That is true. Nutrition is a HUGE part of transformation. I know I could have done better but am pretty proud of myself with the discipline I practiced.

I graduated from ASU (go Sun devils!) with my Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise and Health Wellness and Spa Management certificate. I currently teach pilates at the gorgeous, Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ and have taught water aerobics and cycling as well at LA Fitness until right after I had my last little guy. I was up to 6-8 spinning classes a week and my body had had enough. I had let myself gain 50 lbs. with my first pregnancy, which came off easily, plus more. Then gained a whopping 60 lbs. with my second! I am deathly sick the entire pregnancy so much so that I have to take anti-nausea medicine 1-4 times a day to function. I did teach pilates all the way until the week I delivered but due to this with 60 extra pounds, I developed an umbilical hernia. I was in so much pain the last few weeks of pregnancy. About 3 months after I delivered, they did surgery (mesh) to repair it. It was pretty large so laparoscopy just wasn’t an option for me. After 8 weeks I started working out again and the darn thing reoccurred! I had to go in for ANOTHER surgery and this time I vowed to not workout for “long enough” to allow my body to heal. Well that kind of attitude was proactive in that I thought a year was just fine to do minimal workouts. When you have baby weight to lose, that isn’t so. I   had my P90X dvd’s for a couple years, (thanks to a patient hubby) so I decided it was time to go all out and just do the challenge. I connected with Sherrianne at a television station where we were both doing segments. She was discussing great workouts and I was showing off tasty gluten free goodies full of sugar and fat…mmm! ;) We talked about how we could work together to show the gluten free community that you can get in shape and become STONG again while eating NUTRITIOUS gluten free foods. The word nutritious is the key word.  I have celiac disease so for me, this isn’t a choice. It is great to show, like the amazing gluten free olympians did, that muscle can be built even in those of us living gluten free… Strong is the new skinny!

I am not going to lie, the challenge was TOUGH but it was so incredibly worth the outcome. I am grateful to have more energy to play with my kids and not be so lethargic all of the time. I am glad to see myself choosing more nutritious gluten free foods to put into my body. I even got to enjoy some great recipes that I will be sharing with you soon, while sticking to my P90X plan. My husband and I were so pleased with our results and had so much fun doing this challenge together, that we’ve decided to start another challenge group that begins January 1, 2013. We will be doing BODYBEAST!-Oh yes, I am going to prove that girls can be tough and still be girly girls! :) Participants can choose whatever Beachbody program they want to do, Insanity, P90X, TurboFire…etc. The group is FREE and lots of fun. You can live anywhere, and still be a part of this movement to end obesity and get fit with us! If you are interested, join us here. Our coach Sherrianne, will get you started with what we need from you (measurements, program you will be doing and so forth) to be eligible to WIN great, gluten free prizes including gluten free protein bars and shakes, gift cards, appearal and more from awesome companies! Please let me know if you have any questions at all and here’s to getting fit while living gluten free, whether it is a choice or a lifestyle you MUST live, like me, due to celiac disease. We can all benefit from making wiser nutrition and lifestyle choices.
