My hubby and I recently had the great pleasure of dining at the famous Indulge Burgers located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Let me just start by saying that Indulge Burgers is most famous for having won ABC 15’s Best Burger Challenge , which is quite an honor. They have also received rave reviews from many other trusted sources including AZ Central, Best Phoenix Central, AZ Republic, Phoenix Magazine, Desert Living Today, Scottsdale Breakfast Examiner and GlutenFreeTravelSite.com, not to mention the thousands of fans who adore their burgers (I am now one of them! )
As most of you know, my hubby doesn’t have to eat gluten free but due to my celiac disease diagnosis a few years back, I do. It is always hard to find a great restaurant that meets both my husbands VERY picky food standards as well as my dietary restriction and taste for fine food standards. Indulge Burgers met and exceeded every expectation we had prior to dining there. I had heard from fellow celiac friends that Indulge Burgers was amazing but I just had to see for myself. Wow, was it ever good!
To start, we were very warmly welcomed by manager Kali who’s smile and enthusiasm for the menu made us even more excited to dive right in and order. Owner, Lee casually walked by and joked with us as if we were close friends. As I am not shy at all, I loved this casual atmosphere that made me feel as if the management were truly excited to have us there. What an unusual thing to experience in todays hustle and bustle restaurant environment. That is the first thing that set Indulge Burgers apart from the rest for me.
Our server was also very friendly and offered us help with anything we needed in our decision making process. He helped my husband choose the signature burger they won the ABC 15’s burger challenge with. For myself, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to use the menu and a pencil to create my own signature burger. Now before I tell you what was on it, just know that as girly as I am, I LOVE a big, messy burger. You should know at this point that all the meats offered by Indulge Burgers are certified Humane raised and handled, certified natural Angus beef, free of any hormones and antibiotics and all-natural. I ordered the 1/3 lb. beef burger with jalapeno jack cheese, grilled onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, lettuce cap, honey cured bacon, sauteed mushrooms and a medium fried egg all on a gluten free bun with ranch dressing and their burger sauce on the side. I told you I love a big, messy burger! Oh and don’t forget the order of baked french fries. As Indulge Burgers has a dedicated gluten free menu, I knew ahead of time what I was ordering was indeed, gluten free. The owner, Lee, let us know that the kitchen is VERY careful in their handling practices to avoid cross-contamination. He said that every single employee in that kitchen knew what they were doing when it came to handling gluten free food. This made me feel at great ease. Lee also mentioned that because there wasn’t a dedicated fryer, the fries on the gluten free menu were baked instead of fried. It got me thinking that they couldn’t possibly be as good but let me tell you, they were some of the best fries I have ever eaten! Arriving piping hot along side my delicious gluten free burger, I was amazed that these baked fries were just that…baked! Later, manager Kali told me that many people without gluten sensitivities or celiac disease order them just because they love the taste. I can sure see why! My burger also couldn’t have been any better. It was hands down, THE BEST burger, gluten free or otherwise, I have ever eaten in my life! I knew ahead of time that I wanted to save room for a gluten free dessert so I deliberately packed half my burger and fries in a to go box for the next day wondering if it would be as delicious. After baking it for about 7 minutes in the toaster oven, it was the best leftover I had ever had from a restaurant! Josh too, loved his burger. With the secret of it being peanut butter, he was pleasantly surprised by the unique and delicious taste of the burger. He was also in heaven with the sweet potato fries with marshmallow dipping sauce. In fact, he asked me if we had any when I made homemade sweet potato fries a few days later.
For dessert, I couldn’t resist my favorite gluten free dessert…a red-velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting from the one and only Julia’s Bakery. Her desserts are delectable! Josh agrees that of all the red-velvet cakes and cupcakes he has tried (oh and he has tried many), Julia’s is still the best. It was moist and sweet with a cool cream cheese topping. It makes my mouth water just to think of it! Another great gluten-free dessert available at Indulge Burgers is Julia’s cinnamon roll. Another mouth watering creation that I crave on a monthly basis (more if I allowed myself too).
Indulge Burgers offers gluten free beer, as well as a full gluten free breakfast menu that features such items as Lobster Benedict. Poached eggs with lobster meat topped with Hollandaise sauce all on a gluten free English muffin…yum! The menu also features a build your own omelet area.
My experience at Indulge Burgers was one of a kind. I intend on returning very soon to try another Indulge masterpiece!
